The majority of our customers opt for buffet style serving rather than a plated seated dinner. Tented events tend
to be less formal and the buffet style of serving just fits with less formal events.
As far as spacing needs, plated dinners need more space between dinner tables to accommodate wait staff.
But, needs no buffet area. Buffet style serving requires space for buffet tables although dinner tables can be
spaced closer. Usually, the area for buffet style and plated style serving requires about the same amount of
spacing .
Buffet areas vary in size depending on the serving style of the caterer. As a rule of thumb, a basic single sided
buffet requires 50 square feet per 40 guests (one 8 foot long buffet table). Double sided buffets and single sided
buffets that are staffed at the rear require 70 square feet per 40 guests. If your incorporating other stations into
your buffet line (Coffee, desert, soft drink, ETC) you may need additional buffet space.
Buffet Stations require approximately 100 square feet per station.
Each caterer has their own method of presenting their foods. Alway ask your a caterer the method of serving
and how many tables they will need. Some caterers have their own tables. Check with the caterer on exactly
what they are providing and what they expect you to provide.
Many caterers request a small tent for final prep and to stage buffet and plated serving. Caterers tents are
usually either a 15X15 or 20X20. The same tent can be used for cleanup.
