Permitting and party tents Erection of tents is exempt from Massachusetts Construction Supervises Licence (CSL).
Technically only CSL, licenced contractors and property owners can pull a building permit. The reality is that since
there is no national or state wide standards, local building inspectors interpret permitting requirements for tents
differently from town to town. There are towns that have bi-laws for tent permitting. Also, due to local conditions
some building inspectors strictly require a permit, (we are familiar with many of these towns).
Most building inspectors make it easy to attain permit for installing a tent on private property for a short period
of time. Most towns only require filling out a permit, providing a certificate of fire resistance of the tent fabric and
paying a fee to issue a permit. Others require the tent installer to provide proof of liability insurance and
workmen's comp (we have both of these insurances).
Our basic tent rental service includes providing you with the proper certificates and basic information for
attaining a permit yourself. If you or your town require us to go beyond this basic service we do charge for this
service.
If your town requires additional equipment or licencing beyond our basic rentals service, you are responsible for
the cost of satisfying any additional requirements.
Some companies charge a customer as much as $250.00 just for assisting you with attaining a permit. For most
jobs we offer basic assistance at no additional charge.
