The majority of the wedding receptions we setup use a traditional head table. This arrangement is basically made of banquet tables overlooking a dance area. Sweetheart tables are also popular.
Head tables and sweetheart tables require a large amount of space. On average you must allot 120 to 300 square feet for these types of arrangements. If your wedding party is very large, it is best to double tier the head table. This arrangement splits the head table into two rows with rear row placed on a platform 8 to 14 inches in height. This saves space and gives better visibility for the wedding party. (see below)
If your tight on space, sweetheart tables and head tables can be located on the dance floor and then removed later when dancing begins. Another option is to use a family table, this is basically either a standard or over sized table that seats all or part of the wedding party. This saves allot of space!
